For the past couple of weeks our city has been in Derby Festival mode as we have celebration after celebration in honor of the greatest 2-minutes in sports... The Kentucky Derby. This festival is kicked off by the worlds largest annual fireworks display known as "Thunder of Louisville". Indeed these are exciting times!
Today I was thinking of the excitement that is generated and I began to realize something very significant. Just as every horse in the derby has the potential to win the race each of us have the same potential to win an even more significant race... The race of Life.
Unlike the The Kentucky Derby runners are based on pedigree, wins and losses. The race of life is run by everyone and all of us have the ability to win it. The Victory is not won by your speed, power, or performance but it is won by making a decision. This decision is the most important all of us will ever make and that is the decision to accept Jesus as Lord and personal savior. When this right decision is made you automatically win the race of life.
2 Timothy 4:7,8 -"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will award to me on that day."
We may not win a garland of roses but we will inherit the Kingdom of God. As the horses run you remind yourself of the importance of running and winning the race of life with Jesus.
I hope to see you Sunday
